  1. fsckregist (1.01) - user registration program for fsck, eliminate and hardfix

  5. fsckregist is a simple program that allows you to register (or unregister)
  6. your copy of fsck. To register you need to have a valid features and user
  7. codes that only the author may supply.

  26. fsckregist [-u "username"] [-f features] [-c usercode] [fsck path] [eliminate path] [hardfix path]
  27.   -u   username (enclosed in "" if it contains spaces)
  28.   -f   special features
  29.   -c   usercode

  31. If no username, special features or usercode are provided fsckregist will ask
  32. for them.
  33. If no paths are provided fsckregist will search for fsck, eliminate and
  34. hardfix in the directory where it is stored.

  37. Registering and unregistering
  38. -----------------------------

  40. To register you just have to copy fsck, eliminate, hardfix and fsckregist on
  41. a read-write media (eg extract them from the archive and put them in the
  42. Library directory of your harddisc) and then run fsckregist. It will ask you
  43. the user name, features code and user code and then will write them to the
  44. fsck, eliminate and hardfix executables.

  46. The features code is used to enable some facility that will otherwise be
  47. inhibited. These facilities may be potentially dangerous (eg hardfix writing
  48. to the bootblock) so I will not generally allow people to use them.
  49. Registered versions may have additional features that have been removed from
  50. the unregistered version (eg support for the new FileCore module) but they
  51. will not require a specific features code because they are just 'standard'
  52. features.

  56. If the user code is wrong fsckregist will not warn you but will just
  57. 'unregister' the fsck, eliminate and hardfix executables: so, if you are a
  58. registered user you can just keep your registered version and eventually
  59. 'unregister' it (giving fsckregist a wrong user code) if you need to give it
  60. to someone else.

  63. Notes

  66. Once your copy of fsck, eliminate and hardfix are registered there is no easy
  67. way to extract your user code from them. You should therefore write your
  68. user code somewhere else so that you will be able to register any new version
  69. of fsck you will eventually download without having to request them directly
  70. to the author. In fact the user codes will be valid for every future version
  71. of the fsck suite, unless the author decide otherwise.

  73. The user code is derived from both the user name and the features code, if
  74. the author gives you a features code that is different from 0 you must use it
  75. during the registration procedure otherwise the executables will be
  76. 'unregistered' because the user code will be illegal.

  78. The user name is case sensitive and even punctuation and space are
  79. significant: when you will register the author will tell you exactly what you
  80. have to write.

  86. fsckregist is the less dangerous program you will find in the fsck suite!
  87. Anyway it can corrupt your copy of fsck, eliminate and hardfix, avoid to play
  88. with it except when you really have to register or unregister the programs!

  90. If for any reason (either your mistake or a bug in fsckregist) it causes you
  91. a loss of data, I am sorry for you but I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE.
